Builds Road Race Success
It has been said that drag race engine
builders don’t build good road race motors and road race builders don’t
build good drag race motors. Bob Carpenter of Carpenter Race Engines
located in Berlin, New Jersey has dispelled this myth.
Bob Carpenter and Team Hooters Suzuki,
an AMA PRO factory-supported road race team, teamed up to compete in the
2003 AMA PRO Series 750cc Superstock Class on 2003 Suzuki GSXR750s and
in the Pro Superbike Class aboard 2003 Suzuki GSXR1000s and had a truly
successful season together.
Team Hooters Suzuki’s riders, Michael
Ciccotto and Vincent Haskovec, started the season strong at Daytona with
Haskovec claiming he had never ridden a legally built 750 with as much
power and that it reminded him of the 1000s he had raced in the past.
The Team’s finishes only improved as
the season progressed. With Ciccotto and Haskovec racing in the highly
contested 750 Superstock Class against the likes of Josh Hayes of Attack
Suzuki, Tommy Hayden of Factory Kawasaki, and Steve Rapp of Valvoline
Suzuki, the Team scored an impressive nine (9) top five finishes in this
class with Haskovec climbing the podium in Road Atlanta on May 17th
for his first ever AMA PRO National win.
He then went on to step up to the
podium 4 more times throughout the season. And, ended the 750 Superstock
Championship points total in 3rd place.
In the more difficult and competitive
AMA PRO Superbike Class, Carpenter’s motors again produced some of the
highest numbers at the AMA PRO dyno amongst some of the others.
Carpenter’s motors were designed to produce a strong power curve and
strong horsepower numbers (typically 170-175 depending on track
elevation), but most importantly was Bob’s desire to build reliable
The Team did not suffer any racing
related engine failures or DNFs and is proud to say that for the first
time, the Team finished inside the top 10 of the AMA PRO Superbike
Points Championship finishing 9th in the points.
In the Pro Superbike Class with the
likes of Matt Mladin, Aaron Yates, Eric Bostrom, Miguel Duhamel, etc.
the Team managed nine top ten finishes.
Team owner, Steve DeCamp, would like to
express sincere thanks to Bob and everyone at Carpenter Racing Engines
for a successful season. And, highly recommends Carpenter Race Engines
to any and all individuals seeking meticulously built dependable road
race or drag race motors that are assembled to the highest standards .

Carpenter Racing prepares the engine on the 750and is currently
developing a Superbike engine for the Team Hooters Suzuki GSXR 1000’s.
“We have always been known for our drag racing work and this project was
a great opportunity to show that we can not only build a powerful engine
but a engine that can be run hard with longevity,” said Carpenter Racing
owner Bob Carpenter a former NHRA Pro Stock Champion. “The biggest
challenge was to catching up to the companies that have years experience
in this sport.”
The Carpenter Racing-prepared engine was the top performing engine in
the class, recording 1.5 horsepower more than the next highest. “I think
those numbers show that we did our job,” said Carpenter.
